Come on and do the Mess Around....

So… not a massive amount of readers yet, but I guess (hope) you will come… The Black Lips was an awesome show. One of those nights where you remember just how fun it is to work in a live music venue. Just a straightforward great performance, with highlights including the lighting of the stage with a lamp covered in real live earthworms and lowlights including a sound man (and desk) hit by a pint. ..

Been working hard on the Autumn Ball, got a fantastic Swing/Big band lined up, plus some great DJ’s who will be named soon. It all takes place in SeOne (London’s largest licensed nightclub as they say) on October 1st, should be a ball (seriously pun not intended)…. Open to all years’ tickets will be on sale over the summer, come along and meet us all…

For anyone who isn’t a student, wants a damn cheap night out, take in the view etc, The Mess Around (every Saturday from 11pm) is open throughout the whole summer, costs £5 to get in and has drinks at student prices all night… The DJ’s have really impressed since it all kicked off, so now you have plenty of opportunity to enjoy the cheap drinks with good music… Got to be a winner right?

Hopefully see you soon…

Hello and Welcome

So this is the first entry in the new KCLSU Live Music etc etc blog… My reasoning behind putting this together is to try and let you know all we are up to and keep you informed about tickets and what’s coming your way, also reminding you what just happened and what is good or not so good…

It’s been quite a varied year for us really… from the pop stylings of One Republic (I won’t tell you what I really think of them) to the phenomenal Digitalism (moving between their energetic set and the Waterfront bar downstairs during the despair of England’s abysmal performance against Croatia was an interesting mix of euphoria and depression). We have had the then up and coming Scouting for Girls and The Hoosiers… now selling out venues all round the country… and the much hyped Alphabeat. We’ve had visits from the other side of the Atlantic from the likes of The Manchester Orchestra, who took time out from supporting The Kings Of Leon on their UK arena tour, and Canada’s Hot Hot Heat, who kicked the whole year off for us. So it’s been busy. To say the least!

Due to the way the business works, we don’t always get ticket allocations to sell to our members, normally they end up on ticketweb, ticketmaster, stargreen and seetickets. I know this can be frustrating with booking fees and all, but then great music has always come at a cost… You can always join our mailing list at kclsu.org/live, which also always has updated listings or join the Facebook group, just search for KCLSU Live, and I try my best to make sure I let you know of the hot tickets before they all go. You’ll also see posters and ads on the screens in the other bars, so keep an eye out for something that’ll tickle your fancy, maybe even try something new?

Don’t forget you can always get involved in what we do aswell… we’ll be recruiting for Student Staff very soon for the new year, and an integral part of that job will be working the bars and helping us steward the customers around at our live shows… just fill in an application (downloadable at kclsu.org), and swing by the Waterfront or Guys Bar to hand it in and it’ll get to the right people. We always need people, and its not all bad working on the bar while the likes The Plain White T’s (or someone you like) croon on from the other side of the room!

Anyways we have a lot of planning to do for you guys for next year… Phase is to be revamped, we are working on some very special guests for Fuse, we have a new club night, The Mess Around, starting now and running every Saturday night over the summer…the upstairs bar in TuTu’s is being ripped out rebuilt to provide quicker service.

We also have a very Special Autumn Ball coming your way… glamorous, retro, huge… in London’s massive SeOne Club, with a Big Band swinging its way through the evening and big name DJ’s to add to the fun, it’ll be the perfect way for you to meet new people, or just reconnect with the old crowd…!

Any questions, give me a shout.

Cheers.

Rob
